Our Labs

DMaF is a collection of fabrication and prototyping workshops forming a hub for research, innovation and advanced fabrication.

Leading-edge facilities include 3D Printers for polymer, powder, resin and clay, laser cutters, robotic arms and CNC milling machines, alongside contemporary analogue methods and materials including timber, ceramic and metalworking equipment.

Our Labs.

Digital Fabrication.

The Digital Fabrication Lab is focused on new and digitally-driven production methods and equipment, as well as the software and 3D modelling required to design and prototype.

Material & Casting.

The Material and Casting Lab is a space for image making, and casting processes using liquid formed and additive technologies with materials including plaster, glass, concrete, wax, foam, and clays. The space supports material investigation, prototyping and documentation interconnected with the digital and analogue processes in our other labs.

Robotics.

This Lab specialises in robotic and CNC fabrication technology, housing several KUKA robotic arms, a range of fabrication-focused robotic tooling, as well as the software and expertise to program and operate these.

Metal.

The Metal Lab has a comprehensive range of equipment for working with metal and plastics. This includes metal sheet fabrication equipment, welding and brazing facilities and a wide range of hand tools enabling riveting and joining, grinding, and all aspects of metal-based fabrication.

Timber.

The Timber Lab is a space for making and prototyping, containing a comprehensive range of woodworking tools, materials and machinery for all forms of timber joining, forming & finishing.
