Digital Fabrication Inductions

Want to use Laser Cutting, 3D printing, CNC machining or Robotic arms for your projects?

Can I use the Digital Fabrication Labs?

To book and use the digital fabrication equipment such as the laser cutters and 3D printers, you will first need to complete a safety induction on the resource of your interest. We only run Laser Cutting and 3D Printing Inductions during the first weeks of semester.

Digital Fabrication inductions are open to all students enrolled at the Sydney School of Architecture Design and Planning.

First year Bachelor students are not permitted to use the Digital Fabrication Labs until Semester 2 of their first year.

What is involved.

Each induction consists of several compulsory components:

  • an online module with a quiz in Canvas

  • an assignment

At the completion of these inductions, your student DMaF Lab Competency Card will be updated with the relevant badges.

Prerequisites.

Please note that it is a requirement that all users of DMaF Lab complete the Safety Induction Competency Unit (SICU) and hold a valid DMaF Lab Competency Card while accessing the facilities. If you have not finalised the SICU yet, you may still enrol and complete the Digital Fabrication Inductions, but you will not have access to the laser cutters and 3D printers until you have concluded the SICU.
