Robotics Lab
The DMaF Lab supports student work and research in robotics to explore novel design and fabrication techniques in the architecture and construction industries.
This space provides staff, students and collaborators with access to robotic arms along with the expertise of our technical staff.
Our Lab.
The Robotics Lab supports robotic fabrication electives and run various Open Workshops throughout the semester to provide an opportunity for students to design and make with the robots.
Accessing the Robot Lab.
To access the Robotics Lab you must complete the Robotics Induction on Canvas.
The module introduces students to the basics of an industrial robotic arm - including what they are, how they work and how to program them for making and architectural purposes.
Once you have completed your induction:
Plan ahead and come prepared for your session with your DMaF Competency Card, USYD Student Card, closed shoes, your own PPE (also available for purchase at the DMaF shop), and any sketches, drawings, prototypes or renders to help realise your project.
Programming.
Developing skills sets that adopt traditional craftsmanship for current state-of-the-art technologies such as robotic fabrication, plays an important role for researchers, practice and industry.
Research.
Robotics research-led design electives that are part of architectural studies at the University introduces undergraduate and postgraduate students to robotic 2D and 3D processes.
Robotics Lab Gallery
The use of robotic fabrication in architecture and construction has grown rapidly over the last 15 years, and continues to accelerate as the potential for innovation using robots is harnessed by the creative industries.
Giving students access to these processes allows us to shape future generations of architects and increase Australia’s competitiveness in architecture & creative robotics.
